Up to Date Information Where it Belongs
GDI|Explorer offers a comprehensive way of storing information and keeping it up to date. The information is displayed where you need it most - right next to your data files.

Disk Management
GDI|Explorer is able to access data and information from any number of different local or network drives in your facility. With the integrated GDI|Connect extension you can even access FTP sites, JDBC databases and IMAP mail servers.
The data from the different drives is superimposed on top of each other to present you with a single, clear and easy to use asset tree.
Instead of first having to remember where you stored something, you can now navigate to it, and GDI|Explorer will tell you on which drives or remote locations it's available. Read more
Annotate and Schedule
GDI|Explorer allows you assign any number of notes and/or tasks to the different items in the asset tree. There is a powerful search mechanism that allows you to find just the notes and tasks you're interested in.
Notes and tasks allow you to take control of your projects: track your progress and prioritize your work. Read more
Naming Conventions: Make it Better!
Each item in the asset tree, and each file has an agreed upon naming convention. Traditionally naming conventions are stifling the creative process, as good naming conventions are quite long and difficult to remember. GDI|Explorer understands the different naming conventions, and will break down the name in its different components and display them in an easy to use graphical interface. Read more
Validate: Clean data structures
As GDI|Explorer knows all about the desired directory structures and the naming conventions, it can also validate them. The validation process presents you with a list of all incorrectly named files and directories and allows you to easily correct any mistakes. This helps to keep your disks as clean as possible, which is crucial during crunch time! Read more
Editions
GDI|Explorer comes preloaded with asset structures and naming conventions that are based on years of production experience.
If these conventions don't fit your needs, don't worry: all configuration about these asset structures and naming conventions is kept inside of a "edition" of GDI (the default edition is called "gdi-edition-cirque"), and can be completely customized to fit the needs of your facility.
GDI|Explorer also speaks your language! Should you require a GDI|Explorer version in your native language e.g. Japanese, please do not hesitate to contact us. Read more

Share Data and Information Worldwide
GDI|Explorer allows you to work with information and data across different continents through it's support for FTP and HTTP providers.
As a user of GDI|Explorer you will access information on the other side of the world just as you would access your local disk. You can even work with remote disks and local disks simultaneously.
The GDI|Connect also provides a JDBC provider so you can store your information, notes and tasks in a database such as a MySQL database. Read more
Communicate Worldwide
GDI|Explorer has a powerful integrated instant messaging system using the Jabber protocol. The Jabber protocol makes it also possible to communicate to users of MSN Messenger, Yahoo, AIM and more. You can choose to connect to one of the public Jabber servers or set up your own Jabber server on your intranet.
GDI|Explorer also features an integrated IMAP email client that allows you to "tag" outgoing email with the shot, sequence or layer that it refers to. Email from other GDI|Explorer users can then easily and automatically be filed in different folders corresponding to the different assets you are working with. Read more
Synchronize and Package Your Data
GDI|Explorer allows you to synchronize information and/or data between different facilities that collaborate together and each have their own separate file servers. You can even synchronize data to a separate USB or Firewire device so you can take the data offsite easily (or send it to another facility via a courier, and synchronize it back onto the other facility's file server -- still the fastest way to share huge amounts of data!). Render Queue Integration
The integrated GDI|Queue extension provides an easy to use graphical interface to the excellent, yet free Condor batch processing system. Within GDI|Explorer you can submit, manage and prioritize the rendering of your 2D and 3D files directly on an unlimited number of available processors -- The power of all the processors on your network is at your fingertips!
